about
"Ursula" is the colloquial name for the largest U.S. Customs and Border Protection detention center for undocumented immigrants. We wrote this song to address the cruel practice of separating children from their families in this and other detention facilities, and to raise funds for family reunification. To that end, we will donate every penny we make from "Ursula" to organizations working to put these families back together again and to advocate for just and humane immigration policies.
lyrics
Woke today...
In an unfamiliar place
13 bodies on the concrete floor
Bloodstained collar from the night before
Thrown away...
The promise that she made
A notice posted on the chain link door
Your child is gone, you can't see him anymore
Where would you go, what would you do
If you were her and she was you
Cross any border you know it's true
Break every law just to get her through
You think that you have paid your dues
Scared of the things you have to lose
But ask yourself what would you choose
If you had to walk in her shoes
Miles away...
Her child cries in a cage
His fingers clutching steel he chokes for air
His mom is gone, he can't see her anywhere
You better pray...
When you come to heaven's gate
The God you claim to follow's really there
And he'll forgive you for your sins from life down here
